It's a new year, isn't it?
The U.S. inaugurated a new president just a few days ago, but we're not going to talk about that assbag (fuck trump).
Instead let's talk about better things.
I am in my second semester of grad school!
I shocked myself by getting a 4.0 my first semester, not quite sure how I managed it, honestly.
I am signing up for an independent study over the summer that focuses on Native American women and sexual assault/domestic violence and I believe I am going to begin coursework for the master's certificate in women's studies in the fall.  Lots of big things coming up!
Alex and I have been through some rough shit the last few months.
Long story short, his sister is a spoiled brat (this is nothing new) and I'm just over it.  We had some words and I'll be happy if I never speak to her again.
The rest of his family I could take or leave right now. I'm just kind of over the drama.

We are seriously considering (read: pretty much decided) on a move to Alaska once we're done at ODU.  I am ready for a break.
It was a place we had considered before I went to visit but my god, what a beautiful state.
It's..breathtaking, truly.

 The weather is changing, but I have doubts that it will stay. With climate change, the earth is warming.  Hot temperature last longer into the autumn,  and leaves keep their chlorophyll shade until November. Gone seem to be the chilly, golden days of September.  But today, it is cool, and I am basking in this small promise of autumn. We are still enduring the covid-19 pandemic. I'm not sure how this will impact my favorite time and seasons, but I don't think we'll be seeing much of family this year.  I can't help but think of those who are aging and how terrible it must be to be quarantined, living your last year or two inside and away from loved ones. Of course, there are a lot of young people (and older, really) who are either pretending they don't believe in it, actually don't believe in it (I don't know how you can just not "believe in" a fucking disease but, you know), or just don't think it's a big enough deal to follow scientific ad...

Echoes

So we adopted a kitty! Coincidentally, on our two year anniversary :) His name his Echo, he's a 12 year old exotic short hair whose owner and kitty companion both passed away.  I was certain that someone had already filled out an application for this cat when I met him Wednesday evening, but the woman at the SPCA told me otherwise when she called the next day to inform me that we had been approved.  He is such a goofball, he already rules the roost and has made himself at home. yes, our anniversary! So, we both had to work on the 14th but today we are going to Charlottesville to celebrate.  We'll be going to see Bella Morte at the Jefferson Theatre and somewhere for dinner beforehand. I'm excited to see what the future holds for us.  We've had some ups and downs, as does every couple, but I love this guy and he makes me feel loved and appreciated. I can't see my life with anyone else by my side.
